Acupressure - Jin Shin Jyutsu. Does it Work?
Jin Shin Jyutsu brings balance to the body's energies, which promotes optimal health and well-being,
and facilitates our own profound healing capacity, our own natural therapy. It is a valuable holistic
complement to conventional healing methods, inducing relaxation and reducing the effects of stress.
Jin Shin Jyutsu employs twenty-six "safety energy locks" along energy pathways that feed life into our
bodies. When one of more of the paths becomes blocked, the resulting stagnation can disrupt the local area
and eventually disharmonize the complete path of energy flow. Holding these energy locks in combination
can release to bring balance to Body/Mind/Spirit. Part of the release process is developing an increasing
awareness, and of the bodymind connection.
Learning Jin Shin Jyutsu (wonderfully learning
site)engages one in self-study, self-help. Through the process of now know myself we recognize the wisdom
of the body, and we learn to interpret the messages provided and utilize them to restore balance.
Jin Shin Jyutsu can be applied as a self help and also by a trained practitioner. A Jin Shin Jyutsu
session generally lasts about an hour. It does not involve massage, manipulation of muscles, or use of
drugs or substances. It is a gentle art, practiced by placing the fingertips (over clothing) on designated
safety energy locks, to harmonize and restore the energy flow. This facilitates the reduction of tension
and stress which accumulate through normal daily living.
For those of us addressing existing stress or health disharmonies, or for those simply wishing
to participate actively in maintaining health, harmony and well-being, the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu is a
simple and powerful too, available to all!

The History of Jin Shin Jyutsu
In the early 1900 s
Master Jiro Murai found the earliest written records on the art of Jin Shin Jyutsu in the kojiki, an ancient Japanese text, which indicated that it was
widely known and practiced before the birth of Gautama Buddha and Moses. It was passed from Master to
apprentice by oral tradition, but then had fallen into relative obscurity. Murai developed Jin Shin Jyutsu
further, through personal practice and his knowledge of other healing systems, including Chinese
acupressure, points.
After clearing himself of life-threatening illness, Master Murai devoted the rest of his life to the
research and development of Jin Shin Jyutus, gathering insight from a range of experiences and resources,
including Kojiki (Record of Ancient Things.) The resulting knowledge of Jin Shin Jyutsu was then given to
Mary Burmeister, who brought it to the United States in the 1950s.
Mary Burmeister began teaching the Art to others in the early 1960s and today there are
thousands of students throughout the United States and around the world.
Asian
Bodywork Therapy: Three Recognized Methods:
The American Organization of Bodywork Therapies of Asia, (AOBTA), is the largest membership
organization in the United States representing the interests of Asian Bodywork Therapies, (ABT),
professionals across a broad spectrum of practices. There are more than a dozen recognized forms of
asian bodywork therapy
currently practiced in the United States, the most popular of which is Shiatsu.
If we accept the AOBTA s definition of asian bodywork therapy, these three forms amma shiatsu,
and jin shin jyutsu seem to meet the criteria: They treat the whole human being through the agency
of manual contact. Also, these three forms all have roots originating in the concepts and traditions of
tranditional chinese medicine. Konda a (Barry) Kapke, is director of The Bodywork Institution in Petaluma,
Calif., and the founder of Insight Bodywork . He teaches Asian Bodywork throughout the United States. His
artile, Asian Bodywork Therapy:
Part 1 - Amma, Shiatsu & Jin Shin Jyutsu by By Konda a (Barry) Kapke is enlightening and important
for both the therapist and anyone interested in traditional forms of Asian healing therapies.
Unlike most asian bodywork therapies, the Jin Shin Jyutsu client remains fully clothed and relaxes on
his or her back for the entire treatment. Treatments usually last about one hour; however, if the client
is in pain or discomfort, either a shorter or longer treatment can be effective. Changes will begin to
occur immediately after treatment. These changes continue to happen for several days, after shich time it
will settle and be integrated by the body. Isabelle has treated very ill clients for up to two hours,
producing results that were, with no doubt, astonishing.
